He is doing an amazing job as the Mulenge FC Youth Coach while also playing for Mulenge FC. That’s a big role in our club, and he’s handling it with dedication and passion.
Sammy brings great experience to the team. He can play in defense and also as a goalkeeper, showing his versatility and leadership on the field.
He officially started training the players with the first practice on Saturday, April 25, 2026 @ Watertower Park.

King Umtiti (Kiruhura King) is the founder of Mulenge FC. He created the team with a clear vision: to unite, motivate, and uplift players while representing the strength of our tribe and culture. Through his leadership and passion, he inspired many players to believe in the project and commit to the team.
Together with Clever, one of the team’s key players, King Umtiti helped push Mulenge FC forward from an idea into a growing reality. With David as the head coach, the team is built on discipline, unity, and belief in success.
Mulenge FC stands not only as a football team, but as a symbol of pride, encouragement, and hope for our people — and we believe it will be one of the best. 💙

Today marks twenty years since the tragic Gatumba massacre on August 13, 2004, where 166 innocent Banyamulenge women, men, and children lost their lives while seeking refuge in Burundi. As we remember the 13 lives lost from Gatumba this year, Mulenge FC stands with the Banyamulenge community in honoring their memory. Our loved ones should still be with us today. We will continue to say their names and seek justice in their honor. May they rest in peace.

Today, August 13, 2024, marks the twentieth anniversary of the Gatumba massacre, a day etched in the collective memory of the Banyamulenge community. On this day in 2004, 166 innocent men, women, and children were brutally murdered in a refugee camp in Gatumba, Burundi. These victims were members of the Banyamulenge community, a minority group with roots in the Democratic Republic of Congo, who were seeking safety from the ongoing conflicts in the region. Instead of finding refuge, they met with unimaginable horror.
The Gatumba massacre is not just a tragic event in history but a stark reminder of the vulnerability faced by the Banyamulenge people. Each year, on this day, our community gathers to remember those who lost their lives and to honor their memory. It is a time of deep reflection, mourning, and a renewed commitment to seek justice for the atrocities committed.
As members of Mulenge FC, a team that draws its name and spirit from the Banyamulenge community, we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters. In April 2, 2024, a new chapter in the soccer scene of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was written with the inception of Mulenge FC. At the helm of this exciting venture was King Kiruhura, affectionately known as King Umtiti, whose vision and passion paved the way for the creation of this dynamic team.
Recognizing the abundance of talented Mulenge individuals in Cedar Rapids, King Umtiti saw an opportunity to harness their skills and passion for the game. With a desire to provide a platform for these players to showcase their talents and a lack of organized soccer teams representing their community, King Umtiti embarked on a mission to establish Mulenge FC.
Gathering ideas and support from like-minded individuals, including the innovative Clever, King Umtiti worked tirelessly to bring his vision to life.
